What is a patient advisory council? This mission and vision statement example was written for a real patient advisory council at a small hospital. The team was formed to meet a requirement for Magnet accreditation and build a connection between the hospital and local community. The PFAC team was made up of current and past patients and their family members.
Why did the council exist? In the past, the hospital had experienced perception issues among locals and were seeing patients seeking care outside of the community as a result. Hospital administration hoped the team would create ambassadors to the local community and give community members a new way to express concerns and ask questions.
Why create mission and vision statements? The vision statement addressed what the team wanted to become as they served the hospital, while the mission statement captured the team's objectives and how they would achieve them.
How were these statements used? The hospital used these statements to recruit new members via social media and to introduce the team on its website. They were also used to demonstrate how the team worked to hospital accreditation professionals.
Vision To achieve excellence in patient-centered care for our local healthcare community through a partnership with patients and families using the Patient and Family Advisory Council.
Mission The mission of the Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) is to give our healthcare community a venue to speak into hospital processes and provide constructive feedback in order to develop a more patient-focused, excellence-driven care model for current and future patients.
